Girl Geek on the Move

April 8th, 2011

It was only last fall that I took over organizing Montreal Girl Geeks, with a lot of help from Georgiana Laudi and under the watchful eye of our foundress Tanya McGinnity.

In that time I’ve been welcomed into an amazing, supportive community of like-minded women; honed my organizational and community building skills (or at least made some headway in that direction);  and of course, put on some kick-ass events that I’m really proud of. A huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who’s attended events, spoken at an event, introduced themselves to me afterwards, and  helped to spread the word about Montreal Girl Geeks.

But now my life path is leading me in the direction of NYC, where I’ll be moving at the end of the month for a new opportunity. I can’t tell you how sad I am to be leaving the Montreal Girl Geeks community, but I’m also really excited to see where it goes from here.

The extremely organized, capable, and whip-smart Georgiana Laudi will be taking over as the main organizer. She’s helped me keep the show on the road on more occasions than I can count, so I know that she’s going to kill it as the main organizer.

Georgiana and I are extremely happy to announce that Sandy Sidhu and Liesl Barrell have stepped forward in support of Montreal Girl Geeks to help out with future events!

Sandy Sidhu studied software engineering and has worked at high-tech firms in roles from developer to product management & marketing. She also has tons of event organizing experience, which makes her the ultimate social geek. You may even remember her talk on Community Management back in November.

Liesl Barrell is an account manager at Twist Image where she shines at project management. With great passion for the interwebs, a sharp sense of humour, a ton of energy, and enough Jedi mind tricks to get down to business, she will be a great asset to the Montreal Girl Geeks team.

Please join me in welcoming the new Montreal Girl Geeks organizing team! I’ll be rooting for them from afar, and likely kicking myself for not being able to attend all of the great events that are sure to come.

If you’d like to see me before my move you can catch me at our April Montreal Girl Geeks event, featuring Liesl Barrell.
