Montreal GGs in the News – June 2011
Celebrating the achievements of our ridiculously intelligent & rock star members, here is our fourth issue of Montreal Girl Geeks in the News!
Check out all of the high praises and press highlighting the accomplishments of these great women:
As part of their speaker spotlight, Kathryn was interviewed by Wordcamp organizers and shared why she is such an avid WordPress developer. She will be giving two talks at WordCamp Montreal this July: Beginner’s Guide to WordPress, with fellow Girl Geek Shannon Smith, and Take Control of Your Templates with WordPress Conditionals.
Katherine was selected by the Médias/infos/TIC subcommittee to be part of the steering committee of Etats Généraux, part of the Fédération des Femmes du Québec whose mandate is to work jointly and in alliance with other groups in the transformation of gender relations in all human activities to promote the development of full empowerment of women and the real recognition of all their contributions to society.
Sarah-Jane will be spending the month of July in Silicon Valley representing Context.IO, one of the three Canadian companies to take part in the Canadian Technology Accelerator; a program launched by the Canadian Innovation Exchange. The program will allow Context.IO to spend three months at the Plug and Play Tech Center where they will get office space and unparalleled access to the technological heart of North America for the summer. Sarah-Jane will be doing a demo at The Real Time Web and Streaming APIs Meetup on July 7th.
Shannon, whose blog Breast for the Weary was recently nominated in three categories for the Canadian Weblog Awards: Best New Weblog, Best Weblog About Family & Parenting, and Best Feminist Weblog, will be speaking at the Social Capital Conference in Ottawa on July 23. Shannon will be part of a panel on social media and social change.
Tara was recently featured in the Wall Street Journal for her very poignant post on the ‘subtle sexism of the tech industry’ from her post The Gaslight of Our Times . She was also named by Top Rank Blog as one of the 25 women to rock social media in 2011. Go Tara!
