November Recap: Passionate Project Management

December 9th, 2011

It was a dark and stormy night, but fifty girl geeks broke out their umbrellas and gathered at Twist Image to watch Elizabeth Bucci’s presentation.

And what a presentation! Elisabeth is a PM veteran with over twenty years of experience, and watching her speak about her craft was mesmerizing. She inspired us all to put down our Gantt charts and think about the art of Project Management. Her anecdotes, for example when she relates PMing to preparing a turkey dinner for 20, and her asides, like commenting on how in some Sales Departments cold fusion is suddenly possible, were colourful and hilarious. She walked us through all the steps needed to pull off a successful project, the importance of establishing “done”, how to cover our asses when those expected unexpected changes come mid-project, and a whole lot more.

Her point that Project Management is not about technical subject matter expertise, but that it really is a vocation, a profession and discipline in and of itself hit home. From university students to grandmothers, attendees included official and unofficial Project Managers from the corporate world, small businesses, startups and freelance, all who benefited from her great PM principles.

You can keep up with Elisabeth and her wonderful insights on her blog, The Passionate Project Manager, and don’t forget to follow her on Twitter!

Our Generous Host

Twist Image NomsA huge thank you to Twist Image! What can we say that we didn’t when they welcomed us last May: they really go above and beyond.

Between the delicious and much-tweeted noms, IT support (what girl geek doesn’t love showing up to a full presentation set-up?), Mel Kanfi’s opening remarks and the always-gorgeous space: once again they really made us feel at home :)

In turn, the girl geeks pitched in some contributions to the Twist Image Movember campaign! Way to show your support, gals: thank you :{)
